This role does not include additional compensation fro mileage or travel expenses
POSITION SUMMARY
The Training Instructor is responsible for delivering comprehensive training on election procedures and techniques to Election Day Officials. Under the direct supervision of the Manager of the Poll Worker Department, the Training Instructor ensures that Poll Workers are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professionalism necessary to conduct elections in a lawful, efficient, and courteous manner. Training sessions are conducted throughout Cuyahoga County using curriculum and lesson plans provided by the Poll Worker Department.
This is a temporary position that requires availability for evenings and weekends. Training schedules are established by the department and include days, evenings, and weekends. Hours may vary based on operational needs.
TRAINING ASSISTANT REQUIREMENT
PLEASE NOTE: As a condition of employment, selected candidates must be willing to work as a Training Assistant for a minimum of two (2) weeks at a rate of $16.00 per hour. In this role, the Training Assistant supports training sessions by ensuring materials and supplies are available and by traveling to the Board of Elections at least once per week to replenish supplies. The Poll Worker Department will notify the candidate when/if they will be transitioned from the role of Training Assistant to Trainer although this transition is not guaranteed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct in-person training classes for Election Day Officials throughout Cuyahoga County using established curriculum, lesson plans, and materials (up to 6-hours per training class).
- Travel to different training sites to conduct classes throughout Cuyahoga County.
- Present complex election-related information clearly and effectively to individuals with varying learning styles.
- Ensure all required training materials and supplies are prepared and available for each session.
- Travel to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections at least once per week to replenish training materials and supplies.
- Administer, grade, and submit training assessments to the Poll Worker Department via email on a daily basis.
- Provide support to Election Day Officials on Monday Night and Election Day.
- Attend mandatory Training Instructor training sessions to learn departmental operations, procedures, and updates.
- Conduct all training in accordance with federal election guidelines, the Ohio Revised Code, HAVA, NVRA, policies and procedures of the State of Ohio, and the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
- Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the Manager of the Poll Worker Department.
- Adhere to all applicable laws, policies, rules, and regulations set forth by the Secretary of State and the Board of Elections.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in training, education, or a related field, and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience including teaching or conducting formalized training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Prior experience as an Election Day Worker and one (1) to three (3) years of training or teaching experience.
- Be a registered voter.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
- Willingness to accept driving assignments throughout Cuyahoga County.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications, with the ability to learn and train others on new technologies and applications, like Zoom or other similar platforms.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
